Centennial Stakeholder Roundtables

Tuesday, 2 October from 10:45 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 17:00
On invitation only

In conjunction with the Ministers Summit on the Added Value of Responsible Medicines Use organised by the Dutch Ministry of Health, FIP will convene by-invitation-only Stakeholders Roundtables, a complementary event to the Centennial Ministers Summit where influential stakeholders from around the world and from a cross-section of sectors will convene to discuss current and relevant issues facing the development and delivery of healthcare now and in the coming era.

While society invests in health through medicines (e.g. through their reimbursement), the benefits from this investment could be higher in terms better health outcomes or savings on other healthcare costs, if medicines were used in a responsible way.The roundtables will address key topics which could lead to improved use of medicines and therefore enjoying the full benefits of medicines.

Such topics will be:

The Right Medicine to the Right Patient
The main focus of the discussion of this roundtable will be on options /solutions to improve the use of appropriate medicines for a patient (and therefore reduce the related cost). This includes identifying treatment needs; implementing best clinical guidelines; minimizing medicines interactions; managing poly-pharmacy and optimizing selection of medicines on cost/benefit and securing the supply chain.

Adherence
The main focus of the discussion of this roundtable will be on options/solutions to improve adherence (and therefore reduce the costs related to non-adherence), particularly for chronic patients living with noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, asthma etcetera for whom higher savings are more likely to be obtained. This includes patients' inability to manage medication; their lack of motivation; poorly suited medicines and inability to afford medicines.

Transformative Power of Shared Information
In many other sectors (outside healthcare), information technology has already shown its transformative power. Shared information can be an enabler or facilitator of the solutions discussed in the two first roundtables, whether this information is on patient data (shared pharmaceutical record for instance) or on products (authentication system, track and trace...). This roundtable will discussed these solutions, together with barriers and elements to be taken into account for their implementation, such as a multi-stakeholder approach, a robust decision making process, data privacy.

The conclusions of these three first roundtables will be presented at the Ministerial summit, during a Hearing.

Post-Ministers Summit Roundtable on Innovation
Thursday, 4 October from 09:00 to 11:00 hours.

While the three first roundtables will discuss short-term solutions (solutions which can be implemented rapidly), the roundtable on innovation will provide a longer-term vision on the impact of innovations, both from a technology perspective and a societal perspective. The discussion will be based on the results of an international survey among experts inside and outside health sectors on what innovations are more likely to have a major impact on the responsible use of medicines and how it will affect pharmaceutical sector.

As the Ministers Summit and Stakeholder Roundtables will be held in conjunction with the FIP Centennial Congress, the Centennial as a whole will amount to a once-in-a-lifetime, all-encompassing event, bringing together all manner of stakeholders within the pharmacy and healthcare arenas to consolidate their visions for the future and solidify key strategies for growth and change.
